2004 Ijso: Nigerian Student Wins Bronze Medal

History was made in far away Jakarta, Indonesia, recently where the 2004
International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) was concluded where Nigeria placed
amongst the top teams in the world by winning a bronze medal at the global
contest.
In addition to this, Nigeria fielded the youngest team at the competition and
was also adjudged the most colourful during the cultural presentation to close
the annual event. The competition had in attendance 200 students representing 30
countries world wild.
Miss Adedoyin Adegboye of Grace High School, Lagos, was the history maker
becoming the first Nigerian student to win a medal at a global science Olympiad.
In the words of the Nigerian Ambassador to Indonesia, M. Buba Ahmed, who
received the Nigerian team after the glorious outing, "You have demonstrated
great courage in a contest where other countries presented higher qualified
students."
Nigeria also scored a boardroom victory with the election of Kingsley Nosakhare
Imade as the Secretary-General of the IJSO for the next five years. By this
feat, Mr. Imade become the first African to have reached this height within the
global science Olympiads family.
