Katsina has 10,825 Qur’anic schools – UBE boss

KATSINA state has about 10,825 Qur’anic schools, Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education, Alhaji Sulaiman Nuhu Kuki has disclosed.

Speaking at the distribution of teaching materials worth N5 million to Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools, Alhaji Kuki said about 2,102 Islamiyya schools existed in the state.

Alhaji Kuki explained that over 200 Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools were provided with teaching materials within the last two years.

According to him, three Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools from each of the 34 local government councils benefited from the distribution of the teaching materials.

He assured that the board will continue to assist Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools in order to boost Islamic education in the state.

Alhaji Kuki therefore appealed to Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools that benefited from the distribution of the materials to make good use of them.

Earlier in his speech, the state commissioner for education, Dr. Isma’ila Tsiga had said that the state government had set up a committee to boost Islamic education.

Dr. Tsiga said arrangement has reached advanced stage to send some selected youth to Islamic institutions outside the country to learn Islamic education.

He commended the board for its assistance to Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools in the state.

Also speaking at the occasion, the chairman, National Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Ahmad Modibbo spoke at length on the contribution of both Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools in sanitizing the society.

The teaching materials distributed include Qur’anic books, mats, roofing zink among others.
